02 · Filling
Decay is removed, the tooth is filled in its own shade.
For small and medium areas of decay, the affected tissue is removed and the cavity is closed in layers with tooth-coloured composite.
- Tooth-coloured filling
- Inlay / onlay
03 · Root canal
Root canals are cleaned and filled.
When infection reaches the nerve, the canals are cleaned, shaped and sealed. The aim is to keep the tooth in your mouth.
04 · Crown
A crown completes the tooth.
If a lot of tooth structure has been lost, the tooth is protected with a custom-made crown. A bridge may be planned where teeth are missing. Which option suits you is decided at your examination.
- Zirconia crown
- All-ceramic crown
- Bridge
A filling repairs a tooth affected by decay or a small defect where a direct restoration is appropriate. The aim is to restore the damaged area while respecting remaining tooth structure.
Planned around your needs
Your dentist assesses the size and depth of the defect. The material and restoration type depend on the tooth’s location and clinical needs. Larger defects may require a different approach.
What treatment may involve
The affected area is prepared and restored, with the bite checked afterwards. Your dentist also discusses factors that may contribute to further decay.
What to understand before deciding
Sensitivity can occur, and fillings may wear, fracture or need replacement. Deep decay may involve the pulp and require further treatment. A filling does not make the tooth immune to new decay.
Can a filling always repair a broken tooth?
No. The extent of the damage determines whether a filling, another restoration or a different treatment is appropriate.
